Happy to be here in the OffOn - I am Mark Tomlinson, long-time performance tester and engineer and sometimes a guest on the Pure Performance podcast.
I am currently working with an amazing team of performance and observability engineers at FreedomPay after a lifetime career in various roles at companies like Microsoft, HP Software, PayPal.
Nowadays I spend my spare cycles coaching, training and consulting on modern performance testing and observability strategies - promoting good practices for better performing technology systems.
-
Performance + Observability engineer, combining load test tools with telemetry
-
Building autonomous operations and learning about the human capacity for change
-
Here for the snacks and keeping up with modern tech tooling & techniques
-
Finally launching a new podcast in 2026 (after sleeping on it for years)
-
Also I’m a closet musician who would much rather be a rock star than an IT nerd
Cheers and thanks!

Haha I read all the way down to kind of get to know you. Meeting and learning from/with other people is the best thing about communities for me
AI: I don’t think so. Unless it knows you very well already

Hello Mark, it was very inspiring to read your write-up. At 42, l’m just beginning to explore technology. I’ve got no faith in the education system. My motto is: Learn, Explore, Experiment. In my country, education is nothing but a policy by politicians who know nothing about education. And young people are committing suicide unable to cope up with a fucking rotten system.
Coming to music, l love listening to music but it would be too soft for you l suppose. Here’s a Bollywood song which l used to enjoy in my student days. See how music is being created here. https://youtu.be/ZGPkzQL3xYg?si=YiSr0PxwJkVDF5ec
By the way, l need to breathe life into a 2014 mobile phone, which has been lying with us since years now. Would you be able to suggest a suitable open source OS ? It’s Vivo Y22.
Please don’t underestimate AI. If this a 6 months old post, then AI isn’t what it was 6 months ago.
It develops faster than a baby. Probably its evolution can be compared to the mutation of the corona vius.
